Leo Adriaanse leaves the Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage

This week Leo Adriaanse announced that he will end his position as director at the Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage on 15 April. He will work as director-board member of Cultuurkwadraat and Kunsteducatie Walcheren, a combined provincial organization for art education and cultural participation in Zeeland.

Adriaanse launched the multi-year Activity Plan 'Widening, Deepening and Connecting Intangible Culturall Heritage' (2017-2020) in 2017. Since then, a lot has happened in the field of these three keywords. The Inventory Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands has not only been greatly expanded, but has also been considerably broadened. Through the Knowledge Agenda 'Intangible Cultural Heritage as a testing ground for a globalizing society', research into intangible cultural heritage has been deepened. And by becoming a strong network organization, both in the Netherlands and in the Caribbean region, many connections have been made between intangible cultural heritage and other social domains. In the course of this year, the balance sheet for 2017-2020 will be drawn up and in the meantime, work is underway on the concept of the Activity Plan 2021-2024, in which the work of the Dutch Centre for ICH will expand not only nationally but also internationally.

Teus Eenkhoorn, director of the Dutch Open Air Museum and also director of the Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage: “I respect Leo's decision, but I find it very unfortunate for both the Centre for ICH and the Open Air Museum. We are very grateful to him that the Centre for ICH is doing better internally and externally than ever. We are quickly looking for a successor in this important year for the Centre. ”
