Description

The craft includes making all leather products that are used in all disciplines in equestrian sport. In addition, it also concerns the fitting of saddles, harnesses and equipment on the horse and for the carriage. Knowledge of the health of the horse, riding technical expertise, behavior and biomechanics are important so that the horse is not harmed.

The tradition bearer is a saddle maker in Amsterdam who has focused on customizing saddles with accessories that do not harm the horse. Because no two horses are the same, this always means customization.

During the heyday of the classical riding art (the Baroque), new saddles and equipment were developed to give the horses a healthy and long life to offer. This knowledge has long been transferred from teacher to student. With the rise of the car and the industrial revolution, the horse slowly disappeared from everyday life. This made the craft fall into oblivion.
