The JIAPICH Prize: Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage

The city of Jeonju in South Korea annually presents the JIAPICH Prize: the Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage. According to the website of the Secretariat of the Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage (JIAPICH), the residents of Jeonju are aware of the importance of preserving intangible heritage. They have long recognized its power "as a valuable resource to improve social, economic, environmental, and cultural conditions, and to fulfill the aspirations of people worldwide."

The main objective of the Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage, as stated by JIAPICH, is to "encourage exemplary practices for the preservation of intangible heritage, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, race, age, gender, or any other political, social, economic, or cultural backgrounds."

The JIAPICH Prize is awarded annually. The awards are open to Living Human Treasurers (practitioners), groups, communities, administrators, researchers, non-governmental organizations, and others who have made significant contributions to the promotion of intangible cultural heritage. In August 2023, the JIAPICH plaques and a cash prize of $30,000 USD will be awarded to the finalists of JIAPICH. Submissions are accepted until May 31, 2023.
