For the period 2025-2028 we have formulated the following mission and vision:
Mission
KIEN's mission is to contribute to an inclusive society by increasing awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of intangible heritage. We believe that intangible heritage helps build a society where everyone’s cultural expressions in the Netherlands are recognised and valued.
We see the rich diversity of traditions, celebrations, crafts, and customs in the Netherlands as a unique opportunity to foster creativity and social cohesion. That is why we are committed to mutual respect and understanding of each other’s intangible heritage. Our work is guided by the principles of equal rights, respect and dialogue, multiperspectivity, and sustainability.
Vision
We aim to reflect the cultural diversity and richness of the Netherlands. We strive to be an accessible organisation where everyone can see themselves represented. To achieve this, we build relationships with a wide range of heritage communities and collaborate with partners who share this vision.
We view intangible heritage as dynamic and always connected to its social context. This is why we take on a signalling, analytical, and interpretative role. This means actively engaging in public discourse and placing the importance of cultural diversity at the heart of our work.
